In Response to The Tragic Deaths and Victims of Racist Violence
North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services staff mourn the tragic deaths of George Floyd, of Breonna Taylor, of Ahmaud Arbery, and of so many others who have been the victims of racist violence.
Last week, Chief Justice Cheri Beasley of the North Carolina Supreme Court called upon all of us to work to end injustice and discrimination in the criminal justice system. North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services staff know that racism too often plays a role in our criminal justice system, from arrest all the way through custody classification decisions made in our state prisons. We pledge to work to the best of our ability to dismantle structural and institutional racism in our criminal justice system, taking our lead from those most directly affected.
