VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

How you can help

NCPLS welcomes people who are interested in assisting our organization and clients in several ways.

Quarterly Free Legal Information Clinic for Formerly Incarcerated People

NCPLS sponsors a quarterly free legal information clinic targeted at the formerly incarcerated community.  Volunteer at a two (2) hour walk-in clinic where people can come and talk to an attorney about civil legal issues governed by North Carolina law.  On site we have hard bound and online support resources, and have been working on partnering with practitioners who can serve as mentors to our volunteers. We make it very clear from the outset of the interaction that we are not there to give legal advice or representation but to answer general questions.

We are looking for attorney, paralegal and law student volunteers.  We hold our clinic on Saturday mornings at various locations throughout the triangle.  Please call 919-856-2200 to find out more information about our next clinic.

Law Student Intern/Externships

NCPLS has a strong intern and externship program.  Over the past several years, NCPLS has hosted students from area law schools including UNC, NC Central University, ELON University and Campbell University during the semester and summer months.  Students are able to come and support NCPLS attorneys in diverse areas with such as research and writing, interviewing clients in North Carolina jails and prison facilities, and attending court hearings.

For more information on intern/externship opportunities, please call 919-856-2200.
